This 1.6-mile round-trip hike provides lovely views of New Market Gap and Luray, Virginia which is known for its caverns. A 0.25-mile spur trail called Pass Mountain Overlook takes you to a rock ledge offering even more views.

Directions from Front Royal, VA: Skyline Drive travels the entire length of Shenandoah National Park. Mile markers are placed along the right-hand side of the road heading south. They are numbered from north to south beginning at the northern terminus in Front Royal, Virginia. Facilities, trails and park features use the mile markers as points of reference. Park in Beahms Gap Overlook parking area located at mile 28.5. Begin on the eastern side of the Drive on the white-blazed Appalachian Trail. Travel the Appalachian Trail heading southeast for about 2 miles where Pass Mountain intersects. A trail post marks the path.
