Overview

Visitors to the scenic Tom Steed Reservoir can enjoy water sports, fishing, boating, and camping on this beautiful man-made lake. Tom Steed Lake lies on the West Otter Creek, northeast of Altus in Kiowa County, Oklahoma. This area is believed by many to afford some of the best fishing in the Southwest due to its abundant catfish, crappie, bass and other species. The shoreline length of the Tom Steed Reservoir is 31 miles.

More than 6,000 acres to the east and south of the reservoir are also available for public recreation at the Great Plains State Park. This park has numerous amenities including boat ramps,several picnic areas, designated campsites, a group shelter, restrooms, showers, a seasonal swimming beach, concession services, a playground and several nature trails. In addition, the nearby Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge offers abundant hunting opportunities and also hosts two of Oklahoma's most popular controlled hunts, the annual elk and deer hunts.
