  • Boating

    Rowboat, canoe and paddleboat rentals are available from the Newport News Park Campsite Office. Launch ramps are available for privately owned watercraft (no gas motors).

  • Bicycling

    Bring your own bike or rent one at the Campsite Office. Newport News Park offers a 5.3-mile bikeway (unpaved, multi-use trail). Three single-track loops (difficulty levels vary) and connecting firetrails create approximately 5 miles of off-road bicycling fun at the Harwood's Mill Mountain Bike Trail (located across from the Harwood's Mill Fishing Facility on Oriana Road in York County). Open sunrise to sunset daily.

  • Fishing

    Fishing is permitted by permit in two large freshwater lakes.

  • Hiking

    Newport News Park offers over 30 miles of trails through forest, field, and wetlands.

  • Historic Sites

    Newport News Park is the site of some of the best preserved Civil War fortifications, earthworks and redoubts in Virginia, and is a designated stop on the official Virginia Civil War Trails network.

  • Picnicking

    Newport News Park has twenty picnic shelters (18 full size shelters and 2 group shelters).
