It excites Mike Ward to think of the loons he will hear when he takes over as superintendent of Voyageurs National Park in International Falls, Minn. Friends have been eager to remind Ward of the other wildlife - blackflies and huge mosquitoes - and the sub-zero winter temperatures common in the community he will soon call home. "I've been called crazy by several of my peers for taking the job, but it was a family decision," said Ward, 42, of rural Hillsboro.Ward has been superintendent at the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site in South County since 2005 and worked in other capacities at the site since 1992. He was selected to become the next superintendent at Voyageurs starting on Aug. 17.
