Seyon Lodge State Park
One of Vermont's best kept secrets, Seyon Lodge State Park provides rustic and welcoming facilities in the midst of the inspiring beauty of Groton State Forest. Situated on the pristine shores of Noyes Pond, the Lodge provides year-round lodging and meeting facilities for individual guests and groups, including small conferences, retreats, and weddings.
Rowboats can be rented on site and are the only boats allowed on the pond. While row boats from Seyon Lodge are the only boats allowed in Noyes Pond, there are other lakes nearby you may wish to explore. Boulder Beach State Park on Lake Groton offers a large beach and boat rentals while Kettle Pond State Park (portage required) and Ricker Pond State Parks offers quieter options.
Just a short ride away is access to the Cross Vermont Trail and the Groton Forest multi-use trails, perfect for a day of bike path, road, or mountain biking.
Noyes Pond is perhaps the biggest draw here at Seyon Lodge, offering Vermont's sole public fly fishing only pond. The pond offers a remote setting that anglers appreciate as much for its quiet sense of solitude as for the breeding ground it creates for native square tail brook trout.
Whether you are looking for an extensive all day hike or a quick stroll, Groton State Forest is the place. Groton is home to 26,000 acres of protected forest land and miles of hiking trails. Seyon Lodge State Park itself has a network of hiking trails. Take a one mile walk along Noyes Pond or venture further out into the Seyon Basin, loaded with wildlife and take in views of magnificent Spruce Mountain along the way. For detailed trail info and maps, click on the link below to visit the park web page.
Bring a picnic basket and enjoy the views of Noyes Pond and the surrounding mountain landscape while you dine. Or, if you prefer, call in advance and arrange a picnic lunch made by the park innkeepers. Visitors can also ask about putting up an outdoor tent or reserving a meeting room at the Inn. Speak to the Innkeepers for more information.
The best swimming in the Forest is at Boulder Beach State Park. Kettle Pond is great too, if you don't mind a short hike in and are looking for a more serene experience.
Seyon Lodge maintains its own network of cross-country ski trails and is the perfect place to kick back with a cup of hot cocoa, or something stronger, apres ski. You can also connect to the VAST snowmobile trails, extending your mileage. Seyon Lodge is just off the VAST network of snowmobile trails and you can get to the trails right from the park.
Open year round, with closures during stick season, mud season, and Christmas break. Park is closed for Fall Break November 11, 2010 through December 30, 2010. Open for day use: 6:00 am - sunset.
