The Cass Showcase is a must visit when arriving at Cass, W.Va. The diorama is a work of art and depicts the Town of Cass when it was a booming logging community. A short film helps visitors understand what this community meant to West Virginia and the world beyond. The 20-30 minutes you spend with the interpreter, the video and getting questions answered about the town, history, and character of Cass makes this fee free activity priceless in more ways than one. Next you can take a guided walking tour of the maintenance shops that restore, repair, and maintain the locomotives and passenger cars to exacting standards. On your way to the shops, you will pass the site of the sawmill that produced the finished lumber for shipment to customers all over the country. At the shops, you will see the locomotives being prepared for the day's operations. Inside the shops are the many machines and tools used to keep the locomotives operating. Depending on the work being done, you may see locomotives in various stages of repair and get to talk to the people who do the work. You will also have the opportunity to take a guided walking tour of the Town of Cass. Discover the many interesting structures in the Town and find out what they were used for in the logging days.
