Yellowstone National Park's winter season has a lot to offer visitors; fewer people, a variety of snow sports and activities and unique scenery. This year, enjoy a frosty winter trip to Yellowstone letting the powder fly while snow shoeing or skiing, and spend your evenings relaxing in a hot tub or sipping cocoa by a crackling fire. With winter travel deals at Yellowstone available in December, you can do all this and more, without breaking the bank.
Lodging and Learning packages are designed to be an “affordable adventure” that allow visitors to learn from Yellowstone Association Institute's knowledgeable instructors and enjoy comfortable lodging, delicious meals and evening programs provided by Xanterra Parks and Resorts.
December 18, 2010 marks the opening of the Old Faithful Snow Lodge, while Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel opens for business on December 21. These lodges exclusively provide winter accommodations inside Yellowstone park. The wide variety of winter travel deals include perks such as lodging, some meals and Xanterra's “snow card,” good for 10 percent off meals, in-park transportation, tours, ski shop services and select retail items. Additionally, Yellowstone Association receive additional discounts on learning packages and lodging.
Interested in the park's spectacular wildlife? The “Winter Wildlife Expedition” allows visitors to observe wolves, elk, coyotes and bison in their natural habitat. This deal consists of a four night stay at the Mammoth Hotel, meals, snowshoes, a one-hour hot tub rental, unlimited ice skating and more. Program dates range from December 22 through March 2 (Wednesday-Saturday). Rates are $979 per person for double occupancy and $1,199 for single occupancy.
The “Yellowstone on Skis” package offers five days of cross-country skiing (led by a naturalist and a ski instructor for the first two days). This package is available on January 1, 15, and 29 and February 12 and 26. Rates are $1,419 per person for double occupancy and $1,749 for single occupancy.

This package offers two days of snowmobiling for two adults at Yellowstone National Park and at Gallatin National Forest. DNC's “Ski and See Package” is also available for booking at any of their three properties. The ski package is a two day, three night stay; with a snow coach tour of Old Faithful, ski rentals, and a day of cross-country skiing.
