The Wawona area tells the story of
Yosemite?s human history and
pioneer past. The charming 19thcentury
Wawona Hotel and the Pioneer
Yosemite History Center are a history
buff?s delight. The center is a collection
of historic buildings associated with
the people and events that shaped
the national park idea in Yosemite.
Interpretive signs and a brochure
provide a self-guiding tour. In summer,
take a journey through time on a
horse-drawn stage ride. Hill?s Studio,
a painting studio from the 1880s, now
operates as a visitor information
station. Also in Wawona, you will find
walks and hikes of varying difficulty
to places like Wawona Meadow and
Chilnualna Falls, one of the tallest outside
Yosemite Valley.
Located six miles from the park?s South
Entrance or a one-hour drive from the
Valley
