June 26, 2009, 7:13 am

A Zion National Park international postage stamp will be unveiled during a short ceremony at the Zion Canyon Visitor Center at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

The new 79 cent U.S. postage stamp is part of the Scenic American Landscapes Series to be used for mail to Mexico. Speakers for the event will be Jock Whitworth, superintendent of Zion National Park; Darin Bird, deputy director of the Utah Department of Natural Resources; and Ken McArthur, Salt Lake District manager for the U.S. Postal Service.

Following the ceremony, the stamps and special cachet envelopes will be for sale in the Zion Canyon Visitor Center bookstore and the U.S. Postal Service will postmark envelopes or cards bearing the new stamp with a special Zion National Park First Day of Sale postmark developed for the occasion.

The event is one of the park’s Centennial events celebrating the park’s 100-year history since first established as Mukuntuweap National Monument in 1909.
