Kolob Terrace Road Improved Road

This road extends 20 miles northward from the community of Virgin along the Virgin River to Lava Point Road. It is an improved road that has been paved, but is too steep for most recreational vehicles. The road begins at an elevation of 3,500 feet and ascends slowly northward following North Creek. Almost ten miles from Virgin the road reaches Left Fork Overlook. This turn out provides views of the upper North Creek drainage. Natural features visible from this site are South Guardian Angel, a 7,140-foot peak directly east of the lookout and Tabernacle Dome, 6,430 feet, lying north of the overlook.

The road continues ascending northward from Left Fork Overlook and soon leaves the North Creek drainage. It reaches Cave Valley on the Lower Kolob Plateau before turning eastward around Spendlove Knoll. This high point along the roadway lies on the eastern side and stands 6,895 feet. Before passing this landmarks northern slopes you'll reach a trailhead on the left side of the road. This site marks the western terminus of the Connector Trail and the southern terminus of the Hop Valley Trail.

Two miles north of Spendlove Knoll is another turn out on the northern side of the road. This site provides an overlook of Firepit Knoll, to the west, and Jobs Head, directly north. Firepit Knoll stands at a height of 7,274 feet on the northern side of the roadway. Jobs Head is a 500-foot sandstone wall that extends over one mile forming the northern rim of Pine Spring Wash.

Kolob Terrace Road turns sharply southward from the Jobs Head overlook. In one mile it reaches the Wildcat Canyon Trailhead. This site provides access to the Connector Trail, Northgate Peaks Trail and Wildcat Canyon Trail. From this parking area the road turns sharply northward, then makes a right turn to the east. After this right turn the roadway continues to climb with Pocket Mesa on the right. This portion of the road leads through a Lava Field following the Little Creek drainage.

Passing Pocket Mesa the road winds its way into Little Creek Valley ascending steadily. After crossing Little Creek the road leaves the National Park and enters private lands. It passes Lamoreaux Ranch on the left with Home Valley Knoll, 8,182 feet, on the right. The Lava Point Road leads to the right approximately one and a half miles past the access road for Lamoreaux Ranch. This road lies immediately south of Blue Springs Reservoir at an elevation of 7,950 feet. Kolob Terrace Road continues northward past Blue Springs Reservoir, Bear Valley Road and on to Kolob Reservoir.
