Watchman Trail

This trail leads eastward from a short access road between South and Watchman Campgrounds. It leads one mile through a tributary canyon of the North Fork Virgin River. The route begins from approximately 3,970 feet. Shortly east of the trailhead hikers will cross a small drainage then enters a side canyon. The route crosses that drainage then ascends the northern wall of the canyon. Reaching 4,340 feet and the head of the canyon the trail turns southward and contours the drainage. One mile from the trailhead Watchman Trail ends at an overlook of the lower Zion Canyon. This track also provides views of Springdale. Rangers lead nature walks along this route during the busiest seasons. It is best to hike this trail in the morning or evening as it is exposed to the hot desert sun for most of the route.
