Zion Canyon Scenic Drive Scenic Byway

This six mile scenic loop leads along the canyon bottom of the North Fork Virgin River. It begins where the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway, Highway 9, turns eastward crosses the river and begins to ascend Checkerboard Mesa. Zion Canyon Scenic Drive leads northward from this point providing access to several trails and scenic vistas, Zion Lodge, the Grotto Picnic Area, Weeping Rock and the Temple of Sinawava.

The scenic drive is closed to all motor vehicles, except those staying at Zion Lodge. Park visitors can tour the canyon by shuttle, which begins from the visitor center near the South Entrance. This shuttle runs several times per day and is free with park entrance fee. The loop without stops takes approximately 90 minutes, but most individuals choose to hike, picnic or take photographs along the route. Visitors can get on and off the Zion Canyon shuttle as many times as they like.
