Oh, Ranger! Story Tour Update: Making our way out West

June 24, 2010, 9:27 am

Do you remember the first time you saw a bear in the wild? How about memories of family adventure, when everyone piled into the car and drove to the Grand Canyon? Perhaps you took a class trip to the National Mall in Washington, D.C.? With approximately 270 million visits each year, our system of national parks generates as many diverse stories as it does visitors.

In the first year of an important new public awareness and education initiative, Hyundai has signed on as the founding sponsor of the Oh, Ranger! Story Tour. America's system of national parks offer a diverse set of choices—everything from urban parks to historic Civil War battlefields, from African American Heritage sites to iconic wilderness parks. The Oh, Ranger! Story Tour provides millions of park-lovers the opportunity to share their experiences. These stories will help educate new constituent groups about our parks. Awareness is the first step to engage future generations to protect and preserve these special places.

Stories can be submitted during the tour or online, and will be preserved for posterity in an interactive, searchable database. As part of its commitment to support national parks, Hyundai has pledged a donation to the National Parks Conservation Association of $100,000. The proceeds will help support NPCA’s clean air and climate change programs that benefit our national parks.

With your help, we will create an archive to document and preserve the evolving stories of our national parks.

So far, the tour has stopped in Natural Bridge, VA, Gatlinburg, TN and Cave City, KY. The tour continues through Estes Park, CO, Fish Camp, CA, Moab, UT, and many more places throughout the summer!
