Top 10 Cartoons in National Parks

December 15, 2010, 10:09 am

When we saw the previews for the new Yogi Bear movie in 3D we became nostalgic for cartoons of our childhood, especially those that took place in national parks. We've spent the last few days trolling the internet for some of these animated gems, including everything from Donald Duck climbing a Giant Sequoia to the Roadrunner and Coyote racing through Monument Valley, to--of course--old-school Yogi and Boo-Boo stealing pic-a-nic baskets in Jellystone. Check out the clips below for our favorites, and let us know which you like and what we missed!

1. Pluto: The Legend of Coyote Rock, 1945
Pluto is a desert sheepdog trying to protect his flock from coyotes among the hoodos and spires of Utah's Canoyn Country.

2. Donald Duck: Old Sequoia, 1945
Donald is a park ranger trying to protect a Giant Sequoia from a pair of beavers determined to fell it. The trouble-making duo bears a striking resemblance to Chip 'n' Dale.

3. Humphrey the Bear: Hooked Bear, 1956
Humphrey causes trouble at a fish hatchery and is chased across lakes and ponds by park ranger Audubon J. Woodlore.

4. Road Runner & Wile E. Coyote: Clippety Clobbered, 1966
Roadrunner and the Coyote carry on with their usual antics in the American West, this time with sandstone arches in the background.

5. Woody the Woodpecker: Everglade Raid, 1958
Woody heads to the Everglades to capture a gator, with hopes of making a profit selling alligator-skin suitcases. However, the character Al I. Gator has his own plans for Woody Woodpecker.

6. Chip 'n' Dale: Food for Feudin', 1950
As autumn settles in along the Blue Ridge Mountains, the chipmunk duo gathers acorns to store for winter. A feud begins when Pluto tries to hide his treats in the same location.

7. Bugs Bunny & Elmer Fudd: The Wacky Wabbit, 1942
Bugs Bunny arrives in the Mojave Desert to find Elmer prospecting for gold. Bugs tries to foil Elmer's attempts amid cacti and Joshua trees.

8. Pluto: Camp Dog, 1950
While camping in the desert, Pluto tries to protect his food stash from a couple of hungry coyotes.

9. Donald Duck: Trailer Horn, 1950
Chip 'n' Dale heckle Donald against a Yosemite-like backdrop as he tries to enjoy a relaxing vacation in his camping trailer.

10. Yogi and Boo-Boo: Yogi's Big Break, 1951
Yogi and Boo-Boo are up to their trademark antics as they try to escape Jellystone Park and ranger Smith.

My favorite is another Humphrey Bear cartoon: the one where he and the other bears pick up trash. "First you get a rag, put it in the bag - BUMP BUMP!"
