Zipfy Mini Luge Takes Sledding to the Next Level

zipfy mini lugeUpgrade your winter fun with Zipfy, a new take on downhill sledding. This contraption, inspired by the winter pastime of shovel racing, will transform your favorite sledding hill into your own personal adventure zone. The Zipfy carves into the snow, allowing riders to make twists and turns instead of barreling straight down a hill.

Admittedly, we didn’t have a chance to give the Zipfy a proper testing – there wasn’t any snow to speak of in New York City this year. However, a few glimpses at videos of Zipfy users across the country and a close inspection of the product makes us inclined to share some information about this game-changing sled.

Part sled, part luge, this winter sport accessory has a low center of gravity, allowing riders to carve down the slopes, simply by leaning into the turn. The sled rides low to the ground and can be stopped by digging your heels into the ground.

Although this year’s unusually warm winter means that the daffodils are already blooming here in New York City, some of us are secretly hoping for a late-season blizzard, just so we’ll have a chance to give the Zipfy a proper initiation to winter in the Big Apple.

Appropriate for ages five and up, with a weight capacity of 250 lbs., a Zipfy runs a modest $39.99 – grab one at your local outdoor retailer or independent ski and snowboard shop. You’ll be hoping for a long winter too.
