Offers Civil War Summer Day Camps

It's that time of year again when Appomattox Court House National Historical Park will be hosting the 11th annual Civil War summer day camps. This year three themed camps will be offered. First, the traditional Civil War day camp which will be held on June 26, July 17 and 24. Second, the Life on the Home Front camp will feature activities showing what life was like in the village of Appomattox Court House during the Civil War. The Life on the Home Front camp will be offered on June 28, July 19 and 26. Both of these camps are for children between the ages of 7 and 12. The last offering is a Natural Resource camp involving a variety of activities designed to show how the landscape of an area could affect a Civil War battle. The Natural Resource camp will be offered on June 19 for 7-11 year olds and on July 10 for those 12 to 18 year olds.

Arrival time for all camps is between 8:45-9:00 A.M. Participants will meet at the flag pole at the main Appomattox Court House N.H.P. parking lot. All camps run from 9:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. Bring water, sunscreen and walking shoes. Space is limited. There is no fee for the children, but adults staying must pay the $4 entrance fee.
