Bear Creek Watershed Lakes
Overview
Featuring a total of four small lakes ranging in size from 670 to 4200 surface acres and scenic floatways, the Bear Creek watershed area offers excellent recreation opportunities. Come boating on the lakes or relax on the sandy beaches. The education center offers numerous programs for all ages. At night, choose from five campgrounds or scenic cabins. The four lakes provide great fishing, with anglers often pulling in largemouth bass over 10 pounds in weight.

Boating
The four lakes that make up the Bear Creek Watershed provide 8,200 acres of area for whatever type of boating visitors want, from relaxed canoeing to water skiing. And because there is no industry on the lakes, the water is pristine, creating some of the prettiest waters and beaches in the South.

Camping
With five campground and over 160 campsites, visitors have plenty of options for camping. Most campsites have electric and water hook-ups, as well as grills or fire rings and picnic tables. Many sites are either on, or within a short walk of a lake.
Fishing
The clean waters of the 4 lakes offers some of the best fishing in the country. Small and largemouth bass, crappie, and channel catfish are all abundant. In fact, it is not uncommon for anglers to pull in largemouth bass weighing 10-12 pounds.
Historic Sites
The Bear Creek Education Center offers numerous programs in outdoor and environmental education for all ages. Programs vary from adrenaline-pumping ropes courses to classes in astronomy and pioneer history.
Hunting
The Bear Creek Watershed includes wooded areas around the lakes that are open to hunting. Check with the Bear Creek Development Authority for regulations.
Picnicking
Along with scenic beaches and lake shores, Bear Creek Watershed offers group pavilions for events.
RVing
With 5 campgrounds and over 160 sites, visitors have plenty of camping options. Most sites can easily accommodate RVs, and most have hook-ups for electric and water. Sites also have a picnic table and a grill or fire ring.
Water Sports
The pristine waters of the Bear Creek Lakes offers fantastic swimming. Water skiing, as well as jet skis are also popular on the lakes, as is canoeing.

Directions
Driving
All of the Bear Creek Watershed lakes are located in the vicinity of Russellville, AL. From Muscle Shoals, take Highway 43 south to Russellville. From there directions will vary depending on which lake you want to visit.
Flying
The closest major airport is in Huntsville. A variety of car rental agencies is available.
