Overview

Often referred to as the best fall foliage trip in the U.S., the Kancamagus Scenic Byway offers splendid vistas, vivid color, and all of the glory of Mother Nature. Between mid-September and mid-October, thousands of motorists travel the byway to catch a glimpse of the display. The 26.5-mile Kancamagus Byway passes through the heart of the White Mountains while traversing the flank of Mt. Kancamagus, filled with scenic areas and overlooks. The byway is a wonderful drive no matter what time of year, filled with scenic areas and overlooks. Allow one hour to drive this byway. Visitors also enjoy stopping at the Russell Colbath Historic Site, which offers colonial history, and exploring the Forest Discovery Trail, which provides forest ecology experiences in a living classroom. Camping is available nearby in the White Mountain National Forest. The campgrounds along the byway are rustic.

Directions

Driving

From Manchester: Take I-93 North to Exit 32 in Lincoln. Turn east onto NH-112 to begin the byway.

From Portland, ME: Take US-302 West to Center Conway, NH. Take NH-113 through Conway Village, then turn east on NH-112 where the byway begins.
