Mammoth Cave Getting in the Spirit of Fee Free Weekends

June 18, 2009, 9:19 am

With the Fee Free Weekends taking place Mammoth Cave did not want to be left out of the loop. Since entrance is already free, Mammoth Cave National Park looked for another way to attract visitors during the Fee Free Weekends, which are June 20-21, July 18-19 and August 15-16. The solution: free tours. Fee Free Weekends was started with the intention of increasing summer visitation to national parks and Mammoth Cave is joining in on the initiative by offering two free tours over those weekends.  The self-guided Mammoth Cave Discovery is a 30-minute, ¾ mile round trip tour. Mammoth Passage is a guided tour and lasts about 1¼ hour with the same distance as Mammoth Cave Discovery. The tours begin at the Historic Entrance of the cave and there are mammoth passages along the way, hence the name.
