Brush Creek Trail

This trail leads southeastward out of the Chilliwack River Valley following Brush Creek. It ends at Watcom Pass five miles from the Chilliwack River in the Brush Creek headwaters. On the eastern side of the pass the Little Beaver Trail follows that drainage to Ross Lake.

To access the Brush Creek Trail you will need to hike twelve and a half miles eastward from the end of Ruth Creek Road. Hike five miles to Hannegan Pass, descend from the pass then follow the Chilliwack River Trail seven miles into the valley to the confluence of Brush Creek and the Chilliwack River. At this junction Brush Creek joins the Chilliwack River Trail from the east. Turn right on to the Brush Creek Trail.

The trail parallels the northern bank of Brush Creek for the first two miles gaining only 150 feet. At two miles you will find the Graybeal Camp. There are several primitive sites for backpackers and one site available for a group using stock animals. This site lies at the mouth of a small stream at 3,200 feet elevation.

From Graybeal Camp the trail continues to parallel the northern bank of Brush Creek as it makes a wide turn to the east. The trail leaves the side of the stream for about a mile and begins gaining elevation more steeply. Along this steep section you'll find views of Challenger glacier, which lies to the south on the northern aspect of Mt. Challenger. At 5,200 feet and three miles from Graybeal Camp you reach Whatcom Pass. There are two primitive camping sites on the pass close to the trail. If these are full try hiking northward from the trail to Tapto Lakes where you'll find a few other campsites with easy water access.

On the eastern side of Whatcom Pass the trail continues. It descends into the Little Beaver Creek drainage, which cuts through the northern wilderness of North Cascades National Park. This trail leads approximately 15 miles eastward to the eastern boundary of the park.
