Overview

In 2006, Beaver Island State Park was voted by WGRZ - Channel 2 viewers as the area's best beach and best picnic place! Beaver Island State Park is located at the south end of Grand Island in the upper Niagara River. The 950 acre park has a half-mile sandy beach for swimming, adjacent 80 slip marina with both seasonal and transient boat slips, fishing access, bike and nature trails, playgrounds, picnic areas, athletic fields, horseshoe pits, an 18 hole disc golf course, an 18-hole golf course and a historic home which was the summer residence of President Cleveland. In winter, visitors can snowmobile by permit, cross-country ski, snowshoe, sled or ice fish. Hunting is allowed in season by permit. Please note that household pets are the only kind allow. They may be caged or on a leash not more than 6 feet. They are also not allowed in bathing areas, buildings or on improved walkways and boardwalks.

Activities

  • Boating

    There are both seasonal and transient boat slips at the park along with multiple canoe/kayak launches and a car-top boat launch as well.

  • Bicycling

    Bike trails are available.

  • Camping

    Camping is not allowed.

  • Fishing

    Fishing is allowed, call for more information.

  • Golfing

    An 18 hole championship disc golf course is also located within Beaver State Island Park. Golf season runs from April to November.

  • Hiking

    Enjoy the many nature trails throughout the park.

  • Historic Sites

    Also located in the park is the River Lea house and museum, home to the Grand Island Historical Society and built by William Cleveland Allen, cousin to Grover Cleveland who visited the family farm on several occasions.

  • Hunting

    Water fowl hunting is allowed in season by permit.

  • Picnicking

    Picnic areas are available throughout the park as well.

  • RVing

    Camping is not allowed.

  • Water Sports

    The park boasts a half-mile sandy beach for swimming. Beach Hours are as following: Weekends & holidays, 5/29/10 - 6/27/10: 11 am - 7 pm; Daily, 6/28/10 - 9/6/10: 11 am - 7 pm. Swimming Open: Weekends only 5/29/10 - 6/27/10; Daily, 6/28/10 - 9/6/10;11 am - 7 pm.

  • Winter Sports

    In winter, visitors can snowmobile by permit, cross-country ski, snowshoe, sled or ice fish. Snowmobiling: Seasonal: Trails open from 10 am - 10 pm, by permit only @ Park Registration/Ins Req.Sledding: Seasonal, dawn to dusk when conditions allow. Heated restrooms available
