Overview

Evangola State Park's major attraction is its beautiful arc-shaped shoreline and natural sand beach on Lake Erie. Low cliffs of Angola shale line the edge of the beach. In addition to swimming, the park has picnic facilities, baseball and soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts, 80 campsites and a nature center in the campground area.

Activities

  • Bicycling

    Bike paths weave their way through the picnic grounds beside the lake, allowing you to hop off your bike and grab a bite to eat at the Evanogola Eatery!

  • Camping

    Camping season runs from mid-April until late-October. There are eighty-campsites (tent and trailer) and one cabin that are accessible to visitors. Showers are available, as well as dumping stations for those traveling in RVs. The beach is open to public use from June through Labor Day from 11am until 7pm.

  • Fishing

    Fishing is permitted on the lake during the summer season and ice fishing is popular in the winter months.

  • Hiking

    Trails traverse through the park, covering a variety of habitats including lakeshore, woodland, meadow and wetlands. You can see a variety of animal life including: racoons, red-tailed hawks, turkeys, and white tailed-deer. There are also ample opportunities to practice your bird identification skills when on the trails.

  • Hunting

    Pheasant and small game hunting are allowed during pheasant season by permit in a limited area.

  • Picnicking

    Evangola State Park has picnic tables that overlook the lake, as well as picnic shelters that can accommodate over 75 people. These facilities are accessible to all visitors. Two larger shelters have electricity and will accommodate over 150 people. Restrooms are located nearby. Baseball fields, volleyball and basketball courts, plus disc golf and targets are open to public use. There is a limited amount of sports equipment may be borrowed from the bathhouse.

    During the last full weekend in July, Evangola State Park is host to Pirate Fest, a fun-filled event where guests are encouraged to dress like pirates and participate in pirate-related activities. Such activities include: treasure hunts, cannon and weapon firing, and costume contests. They also have live music as well as pirate crafts

  • RVing

    Camping season runs from mid-April until late-October. There are several RV camp sites as well as showers and dumping sites that are available for public use.

  • Tennis

    Tennis courts are on the grounds of Evangola State Park. If by chance you forgot to pack your tennis rackets, there is a limited supply of gear that can be borrowed from the bathhouse.

  • Water Sports

    With a beautiful arc-shaped shoreline and natural sand beach (lifeguard protection in the summer) on Lake Erie, Evangola State Park is the perfect place for an afternoon swim. Fishing is also permitted from the shoreline.

  • Winter Sports

    The summer hiking trails are user friendly for winter sport enthusiasts with the first snowfall. Snowmobiling and cross country ski or snowshoe trails run through the park. Ice fishing is permitted on the lake once the ice is thick enough.
