Science Summer Camps

Science Summer Camps
Science is more than a subject. It's part of everything we do - and the more we understand, the more we can appreciate and conserve our natural world to a greater extent.

The Pinhead Institute is exited to be joining forces with the Ah Haa School for the Arts to offer science courses that allow children to explore and discover nature & chemistry through art, thereby introducing participants an alternative way to understand & appreciate the world of scientific study.

In these camps, kids will investigate, invent, experiement, interpret, discover, and share what they have learned. Most important of all, kids will have fun using their hands & minds!

Download the registration form here or call the Ah Haa here to register for these courses today! Space is limited!

Morning Session: Pinhead Scientist

Join a Pinhead Institute scientist for this fun filled camp that will show you how to set about observing the natural world around you. Each day will be packed full of activities, games, and projects that will help you to look at individual animals and plants, while also learning how to study them together as parts of whole living communities. This camp ensures that kids will have deep, new, and personal contact with the natural world and their own sense of wonder. Through this camp we will look at plant power, bird behavior, tracking animals, studying life cycles, collecting samples, and conducting experiments outside!

Afternoon Session: Joslyn Doerge

Become an eco-artist at the Ah Haa this summer! Students will spend the afternoons gathering materials from outside to create our nature-themed art! Projects will include recycled creations, leaf prining, track molds, bark rubbing, a scavenger hunt and so much more! Dress for a mess!

The Art of Science: Cool Chemistry & Crafts
Date Range: August 3 - 6, 2009

Times: Monday - Thursday from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM & 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

(with lunch break)
Ages: 7+

Cost: $400 for four full days

Morning Session: Dr. Susan DeSensi, Boston University

Do you want to be a chemist? Let's get messy with kid-favorite "Scientist Susan!" We will conduct outrageous experiments and make outlandish concoctions. It has never been more important to understand the world around us than it is today. This camp will help clarify what things are really make of, why substances are how they are, and how and why matter changes all through fun, hands-on, kid-friendly experiments & investigations. As a result of this camp, young chemists will understand the scientific principles behind everyday events in their lives - like seeing a rainbow, riding a bicycle, drinking juice - and they will have fun learning it!

Afternoon Session: Marty Langion

In these four fun-filled & educational afternooons, kids will participate in a series of hands-on activites such as making & completing a chemistry scavenger hunt - and then building a sculpture out of their found objects, creating invisible ink, getting messy, and so much more! Dress for a mess!
