Overview

Nestled in the South Carolina Upstate area, the Caesars Head State Park is a popular destination for hikers, bird watchers, and other outdoor enthusiasts. Outcropping on top of the dramatic Blue Ridge Escarpment lies magnificent granitic gneiss. This spot offers gorgeous views all year, bost he most spectacular views occur in the autumn months when the leaves change into bright colors. One yearly event that attracts birdwatchers is the Hawk Watch program each fall. It occurs at this time so that from the 3,2000 foot high perch, guests may see the amazing sight of swarms of migrating raptors including hawks, kites, falcons, and eagles. Hiking enthusiasts can take advantage of trails that go from easy to challenging, and that circle and traverse Caesars Head and the adjoining Jones Gap state parks, which together form the Mountain Bridge Wilderness. In total, these areas make up about 11,000 acres of untouched forest. A popular trail is the 420-foot Raven Cliff Falls, where a suspension bridge offers a breathtaking view of the falls. Picnicking and wilderness trailside camping also are highlights. The park also attracts trout fishermen in the state-designated scenic Middle Saluda River.
