The Edisto Beach State Park is known to guests as a popular, scenic, oceanfront campground on a palmetto-lined beach. The park boasts an environmental education center known as the "green" building which is chock full of exhibits that teaches guests about the natural history of the area and the surrounding ACE Basin, which is famed for being one of the United State's biggest preserved estuaries. Edisto Beach State Park attracts guests who enjoy shelling or just taking strolls on the beach. Edisto State Beach is just one hour from Charleston, South Carolina and is therefore an accessible getaway. Here, a campground situated deep in the maritime forest which contains many live oaks and some of the state's tallest palmetto trees. There is also a row of comfortable cabins in the woods with a wonderful front-row view of miles upon miles of untouched marshland. This Park also has the state's longest system of handicapped-friendly hiking and biking trails, once of which leads to a four thousand-year-old shell midden alongside a remote bend on a tidal creek.

  • Boating

    A boat ramp and courtesy dock is located on the western boundary of the park which offers guest access to Big Bay Creek.

  • Bicycling

    Contact the park for information on bike trails.

  • Camping

    Tent and RV camping available. Note: You must make a reservation request directly through the park if you request less than 1 day before check-in.

  • Fishing

    Enjoy surf fishing or fishing in the salt marsh for flounder, whiting, spot tail and other species.

  • Hiking

    Hiking trails wind through the maritime forest.

  • Picnicking

    Two picnic shelters are available on a first-come, first-served basis for family or other group gatherings at no charge.


Office Hours run from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (extended to 8 p.m. in peak season) Days and Hours of Operation run from Mon-Sun, Dawn to Dusk.



From Hwy. 17: Take Hwy 174, 28 mi. to entrance of the town of Edisto Beach. As you enter the town limits, the entrance to the park will be on your left.
