Lake Alvin Recreation Area
Overview
Although small in size, Lake Alvin is very popular for its beaches and excellent fishing. Its proximity to both Sioux Falls and Newton Hills State Park make it a great place to enjoy a day on the beach. The focus of Lake Alvin Recreation Area is water recreation. The park has become a popular gathering place for swimmers, boaters and anglers. The 105-acre lake is the perfect size for any boat. The lake is designated as a no-wake zone to protect the shoreline from erosion. An accessible picnic shelter and an alcohol-free beach provide a great setting for families to spend the day in the sun. An accessible fishing pier makes the lake ideal for people of all. Anglers can expect to snag walleye, northern pike, crappie, perch, catfish and bullheads. Lake Alvin is an artificial lake, formed by a dam on Nine Mile Creek directly before it empties into the Big Sioux River.
