Lake Cochrane Recreation Area
Overview
Nestled between Lake Cochrane and Lake Oliver, this park is an 88-acre playground for campers, anglers, boaters, and others who simply enjoy the outdoors. The quality of both the park and of the lake brings people to this area. The lake is known for its deep, cold, clear, spring-fed water. Lake Cochrane was named for the area's first homesteader, Byron J. Cochrane. Cochrane settled on the south side of the lake in 1872. The area's rich farmlands soon attracted other homesteaders.
The park is located near the South Dakota-Minnesota border and surrounded by woods and hills. It provides a scenic backdrop for all park activities. This park features a small, quiet campground with easy water access. It is best known for fishing, boating, and other forms of water recreation. The spring-fed lake attracts campers, swimmers, boaters and fishermen. In the winter, cross-country skiers, snowmobilers, and ice fishermen enjoy the lake.
