Things To Do

The Upper Lake Creek Special Recreation Management Area encompasses over 15,000 acres of public land at the headwaters of Lake Creek north of state highway 36 near Horton. To the north of this area adjoins the Alsea area managed by the Salem District. Acquired through an exchange with Willamette Industries in 1995, Hult Reservoir is the centerpiece of this rugged and picturesque recreation area. Plan a picnic or set up camp near Hult Reservior, where you can spend the afternoon canoeing, warm water fishing, or explore many miles of forest roads. Then, wander through the surrounding mountains to find the Salem District's Alsea Recreation Area and Back Country Byway. OHV use is limited to open, existing roads.
